Anson County's Robotics Team Takes 1st Place in FIRST Robotics Regional Competition in Pembroke
"Sports for the Mind"
“Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. We call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate Sport for the Mind. High School student participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have.”” “FIRST Robotics Competition.” FIRST, 7 Feb. 2020, www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc.
In FIRST Robotics Competition, teams of students are tested on their ability to raise funds, design a team “brand”, and build and program robots to compete against other teams. This is all done by collaborating with teammates and other teams; and, as a result, building strong teamwork skills.
Each year the entire first robotics has a kickoff day in January where all teams find out what the competition will be that year and are given the new rules. From there, teams have until first of March to plan design and build their robot.
Anson High School took 1st place at the regional tournament at Pembroke University. There were 29 teams in the tournament. Anson was teamed up with two other teams, and that alliance won the whole tournament.
